Mike Willis, in his ninth season as a coach with the Tigers, has helped the Princeton football team win its last four Ivy League titles in multiple ways.In 2013, he was an offensive lineman on a record-setting offense that won the Ivy League championship. In 2016, he returned to his alma mater as one of the youngest position coaches in Division I football, and he again helped the Tigers win the title.
An experienced Willis — who now holds the title of assistant head coach — helped lead Princeton to one of its most historic seasons in program history in 2018. The Tigers produced the program's first perfect season since 1964, and they reached the #8 spot in the national rankings.
The 2021 season saw Princeton go 9-1 and earn an Ivy League title, its third in five seasons. The Tigers had 16 All-Ivy selections including 10 first-team honorees, a program record. The offense ranked first in the Ivy League in scoring (33.4), second in passing offense (265.5), second in passing efficiency (147.0) and third in total offense (392.4).
Princeton went 8-2 and was in contention for the Ivy League title into the final week of the 2022 regular season. The Tigers had 16 All-Ivy selections tied for second-most at Princeton since 2013. The Tigers had the No. 1 passing offense (274.2) and No. 2 scoring offense (27.6) in the Ivy League.
In 2017, Willis helped Princeton produce an offense that ranked in the Top 5 of the FCS in passing, scoring and total offense. He also oversaw the development of Graham Adomitis, who overcame injuries to produce an All-Ivy League season in his first year as a starter. In 2018, Adomitis developed into one of the league's most versatile tight ends, and he earned first-team All-Ivy honors for an offense that set an Ivy League record for total points scored (470).
After spending the 2015 season as a coaching intern at his alma mater, Willis became the tight ends coach at Princeton before the 2016 Ivy League championship season. He helped Princeton produce the Ivy League's top scoring and total offense, and he coached Scott Carpenter to an All-Ivy League season.
