H.G. Levine Broadcast Center
H.G. Levine Broadcast Center
The H.G. Levine Broadcast Center has transformed the Department of Athletics' ability to produce live events for streaming and for television, create on-demand video, expand its podcasting capabilities, and strengthen the overall ability to tell the great stories of one of the most successful college programs in the country.
The facility – opened September 2019 and located within Jadwin Gymnasium – has been made possible through a generous gift from Steven Mayer, a member of the Class of 1981 and a baseball player as an undergraduate, and his wife Laura Mayer. The center is named after Steve's late uncle, whose life was lost in a car accident as a college sophomore. Like many Princeton University students, Steve's uncle was a first-generation college student and an accomplished student-athlete.
Princeton is the only Ivy League institution with a broadcast studio dedicated solely to athletics.
The broadcast center leverages the University’s existing infrastructure to connect to each athletic venue on campus using single-mode fiber and NDI (Network Device Interface) technology. Princeton previously built out an additional control room at Princeton Stadium during the summer of 2018 – giving the department three fully-functional, modern spaces that can each be utilized to produce live game broadcasts or in-venue video shows.
State-of-the-industry technology includes:
• NewTek TriCaster TC1 switchers
• NewTek 3Play 3P1 replay systems
• AJT LiveBook graphics
• Clear-Com HelixNet intercom system
• Hitachi HD5500 cameras with camera control units
• JVC PZ100 robotic PTZ cameras
• Dante networked audio
• Yamaha TF digital audio consoles
