PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Maggie Langlas (Missoula, Mont.) tallied 22 points and seven rebounds as the Princeton women's basketball team defeated Roto Banska Bystrica of Slovakia 67-46 in an exhibition contest at Jadwin Gym this evening.
Poor shooting by the Tigers allowed Slovakia to lead for the majority of the first half. Princeton trailed by as many as six in the opening stanza, including a 26-22 deficit at halftime. Brooke Lockwood (Sr., Palatine, Ill.), who got the starting nod at center, scored Princeton's first four points and led the Tigers with seven at the break.
Whatever head coach Liz Feeley said at halftime did the trick, as the Tigers outscored Slovakia 45-20 in the second half to come away with the 21-point victory. With Princeton trailing by five at the 14:40 mark of the second half, sophomore Lauren Rigney (Marlborough, Mass.) made a steal and fed Langlas for a driving lay-up at the other end. That began a 13-2 run that gave the Orange and Black a 47-37 lead with 7:56 remaining. Slovakia was unable to mount an offensive comeback, tallying only three points in the final three minutes.
Langlas led all scorers with 22 points, including a 6 for 6 performance at the line, while Lockwood cashed in 15. Kate Thirolf (Sr., Rockville, Md.) added nine points and five rebounds. Michaela Magerciakova led Slovakia with 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers open their season on Nov. 19, when they host Lehigh at 7:30 p.m.
