The Storyline: Princeton looks to reverse Yale's last visit to Central New Jersey
This Week's Note of the Week History lesson — The last time Princeton and Yale met when one team was in first place and the other was below .500 was in 1995, when Princeton was 8-0 and Yale was 2-6. Yale defeated Princeton 21-13 to hand the Tigers their only loss of their championship season. Five more notes no media person should be without More history — Princeton and Yale have met every year since 1876 except the World War I years of 1917 and 1918 and the World War II year of 1944.
Welcome back — Yale has not played in Princeton since 1995. The teams met in New Haven in 1996 and 1998 and at the Meadowlands in 1997.
First one to one wins — Princeton has not led at any point in any of its losses or trailed at any point of its wins.
More one — There has not been a lead change at any point of Princeton's first eight games. Last year's Princeton-Yale game featured two lead changes in a 21-second span of the fourth quarter.
Century city — Princeton is 3-0 when it has a 100-yard rusher and 0-5 when it does not.
Others receiving votes Up and down — Since Week 2, Princeton has gone loss, win, loss, win, loss, win, loss.
Quarterly report — Princeton is outscoring its opponents 105-103 in the second and fourth quarters and is being outscored 80-40 in the first and third quarters.
Be like Mike — Mike Higgins has had three double-figure tackle games in the last four weeks. Higgins had not had a double-figure tackle game in his career prior to that.
More Mike — Mike Higgins is Princeton's leading tackler.
Phil it up — Phil Wendler ranks third in Division I-AA in receptions per game (7.6). His high school teammate at Kentwood High outside Seattle, Stephen Campbell of Brown, is first.
More Phil — Phil Wendler has 61 receptions, more than the next five Tigers combined.
Still more Phil — Phil Wendler has had at least six receptions in every game.
Even more Phil — Phil Wendler has 61 receptions. Danny Brian is second on the team with 19, 42 behind Wendler.
Another Phil — Phil Wendler is sixth on Princeton's single-season receptions list with 61. He needs one to tie for fifth, five to tie for fourth and 14 to tie for third.
Last Phil — Phil Wendler is fourth all-time at Princeton with 111 career receptions. He needs 26 to tie Judd Garrett for third.
Center of attention — Bernie Marczyk has started 32 straight games at center for Princeton, a school record for games started by an offensive lineman.
Getting his kicks — Taylor Northrop is 5 for 6 on field goal attempts of at least 40 yards and 4 for 6 on field goal attempts of fewer than 40 yards.
More kicks — Taylor Northrop has the same percentage on field goals of at least 40 yards (5 for 6, .833) as he does on extra points (10 for 12, .833).
Last kicks — Taylor Northrop's 52-yard field goal against Harvard was the second-longest in school history (54 by Charlie Gogolak). Sack daddy — David Ferrara is Princeton's career leader with 27.5 sacks.
On guard — Hamin Abdullah has started 31 games at guard for Princeton, dating to his freshman year.
Catching on — H-back Marty Cheatham has caught 15 passes the last four weeks after catching two in the first four weeks.
Cameron crazy — Freshman Cameron Atkinson has had two 100-yard rushing games.
Highly offensive — Princeton has averaged 31 points per game in its wins and 16.6 points per game in its losses.
Rhymes with agree — Junio Tim Ligue has seven receptions the last two weeks after not catching a pass in his career prior to that.
Air it out — Princeton is on pace for 2,120 passing yards, which would be the sixth-highest single-season total in school history.
Tommy can you hear me? — Tommy Crenshaw is on pace to finish his career with 4,680 passing yards, which would be second all-time at Princeton.
Yard work — Princeton's 537 yards of offense against Columbia were the most by the Tigers since a 565-yard game against Yale in 1992.
Formal dedication — Senior Preston Tims has not missed a practice or game this year, despite being inactive the entire time with a broken leg suffered early in preseason camp.
Passing equality — Princeton has completed 153 of 272 passes for 1,696 yards, its opponents have completed 149 of 274 passes for 1,668 yards.
Cameron crazy — Cameron Atkinson has two 100-yard rushing games this year (Fordham, Columbia).
Catching on — Princeton has had four freshmen catch at least one pass this year (Chisom Opara, Cameron Atkinson, Nathan Lindell, Patrick Schottel).
Weather or not — The average temperature of Princeton's first eight games has been 65.8 degrees. The average temperature of Princeton's first eight games a year ago was 58.7 degrees.
Youth movement — Princeton has 10 players with at least one rushing attempt, and eight of the 10 are either freshmen or sophomores.
Another history — One hundred years ago, the Princeton-Yale game ended with the unlikely score of 11-10.
Sneak in one more Phil — Phil Wendler had 112 receiving yards against Yale in last year's game.
