The 78th meeting
This Week's Note of the Week
- Close shaves - Of its last 30 games, Princeton has had 20 decided by seven points or fewer, including one tie and four overtime games.
-
Century city - Phil Wendler has three 100-yard receiving games this year,
including two straight. No other Princeton receiver has had even one since
Marc Ross in 1993.
- Best Foote forward - Craig Foote has two defensive touchdowns this
year
(one fumble return, one interception return). Every other Princeton
defensive player combined in the last 11 years has two defensive
touchdowns.
- No rush - Princeton ranks third in Division I-AA in rushing defense
(73.7
yards per game).
- More rush - Princeton has allowed 663 rushing yards in nine games,
Dartmouth has rushed for 649 yards in nine games.
- Fan-tastic - Princeton has averaged 23,010 fans (83% of the 27,800 capacity) in its first four games at Princeton Stadium.
- 50-50 proposition - Princeton is 18-18-1 in its last 37 games.
- History lesson - Dartmouth's Dylan Karczewski scored the final
touchdown
in Palmer Stadium history.
- Getting his kicks - Matt Evans is averaging 44.1 yards per punt, tops
in
the Ivy League and fifth in Division I-AA.
- Stranger things have happened? - Matt Evans is Princeton's career
record
holder in punting average heading into his final game (40.7 yards per
kick). To lose that record, he would have to have 16 one-yard punts
against Dartmouth.
- Stranger things have happened II? - Matt Evans is averaging 44.1 yards
per
punt this year, which would break his own school season record by three
yards. To lose the record, Evans would have to have five one-yard punts
against Dartmouth.
- Sounding like a broken record - Should Matt Evans hold onto his
single-season punting record, then it would mark the third straight year
that he has broken the record (setting it with 40.7 yards per punt as a
sophomore and then bettering that mark with 41.1 as a junior).
- More records - Alex Sierk enters his final game needing two field
goals to
tie the Ivy League career record of 38, held by Dave Regula (Dartmouth
'98).
- Oops - Alex Sierk holds Princeton's career record for points scored by
kicking (182 heading into his final game). Sierk broke Charlie Gogolak's
career record two weeks ago against Harvard, though it went unknown at the
time.
- Highly offensive - Princeton has already ensured it will improve over
1997
in rushing yards, passing yards and points scored.
- Good news - John Burnham needs 204 passing yards against Dartmouth to
become the fifth Princeton quarterback ever and first since Jason Garrett
in 1988 to reach 2,000 yards for a season.
- Bad news - John Burnham threw five interceptions in the first eight
games
of the year and six in the loss to Yale.
- Good news - John Burnham is in 10th place all-time at Princeton with
2,139
passing yards, 265 away from Dick Kazmaier for ninth place.
- Bad news - Princeton's final play in four of its five losses this year
has
been an interception.
- Good news - John Burnham has thrown for at least 200 yards in four
straight games, making him the first quarterback since Jason Garrett in
1987 to do so.
- More good news - John Burnham is averaging 217 yards of total offense
per
game, the most by a Princeton player since Jason Garrett in 1988.
- Catching on - Ryan Crowley is currently 14th on Princeton's
single-season
receptions list with 41. He needs four catches against Dartmouth to move
into 10th.
- Everybody loves Raymond - Ray Canole has caught at least one pass in
19
straight games.
- The Fab Four - Princeton's four tailbacks (Damien Taylor, Nathan
McGlothlin, Derek Theisen, Kyle Brandt) have combined for 1,109 yards, the
most out of the tailback position since Keith Elias ran for 1,731 in 1993.
- The Fab Four II - Kyle Brandt leads Princeton with 101 carries and 396
yards, no Steve Tosches-coached team has ever had its top rusher carry
fewer than 140 times or rush for fewer than 509 yards.
- Join the club - Barring unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bennett
figures
to start his 30th game at offensive tackle. Bennett will become the
seventh player under Steve Tosches to start at least 30 games and second
offensive lineman (Carter Westfall).
- By Djordje - Tight end Djordje Citovic caught a one-yard pass against
Yale. The reception lowered his average yards per catch from 26.0 to 22.4,
still a team-best.
- Linebacker U - Princeton has had at least one first-team All-Ivy
linebacker the last four years and eight of the last 10.
- More century - Jim Salters has 95 tackles. He needs five against
Dartmouth
to join Dave Patterson and Tim Greene as the only Tigers to reach 100
tackles in a season since 1992.
- Sack daddy - David Ferrara needs 2.5 sacks against Dartmouth to tie
the
school record of 14.5, set in 1991 by Brian Kazan.
- No sack daddies - Princeton did not record a sack against Yale,
marking
the first time this year the Tigers failed to do so.
- Quarterly report - Princeton has outscored its opponents 140-58 in the
second and fourth quarters and has been outscored
81-50 in the first and third quarters.
- Highly possessive - Princeton has a 41-minute edge in time of
possession
for the year.
- Conversion tables - Princeton's opponents have converted 27.5% of their third-down attempts and 64.3% of their fourth-down attempts.
