Five Second Half Goals Lead Yale Over Princeton 7-4 in Season Finale

NEW HAVEN, CT. - The Princeton men's soccer team (8-8-1, 3-4 Ivy) scored four goals in the first 52 minutes of the game, but that was not enough as Yale scored five unanswered goals in the second half to defeat the Tigers 7-4 in their final game of the 1998 season.
Chris Halupka (Sr., Clifton, NJ) opened the scoring at the 32:57 mark, netting his second goal of the season on a direct kick. Only four seconds later Mike Nugent (Fr., Cranbury, NJ) increased the Tiger lead to two goals on an assist from Lucas Moskowitz (Fr., Storrs, CT).
Yale answered with a pair of scores in just over six minutes. Phil Harris scored his first of four goals just 18 seconds after Nugent's goal off an assist from Chung Ming Ip. Ming Ip then netted his first of two goals to knot the game at 2-2 at the 39:22 mark.
Princeton's Matt Striebel (So., Gill, Mass.) scored with 3:05 remaining in the first half to give the Tigers the 3-2 lead going into the intermission.
Moskowitz then tallied a goal of his own as he found the back of the net off a pass from Will Rodgers (Fr., Bay Village, OH) with only 5:31 expired in the second half to give Princeton the 4-2 lead.
It was all Yale after that, beginning with two goals by Phil Harris in the next four minutes to tie the game at four goals each. Bulldog Jac Gould scored at the 59:17 mark for the game-winning goal. Insurance goals by Harris and Ming Ip gave Yale the three-goal win.
Freshman keeper Jeff Gillie (Scotch Plains, NJ) made nine saves as he was bombarded with 23 shots on goal. Yale keeper Danny Moss made six saves in the win.
Princeton ends its season at 8-8-1 and 3-4 in Ivy competition. The win improves Yale to 10-6-1, 5-2 Ivy, with a shot at the league title.
