ATLANTA, G.A. - Select members of the women's swimming and diving team competed in the NCAA championship in Atlanta this weekend. The women sent two freshman swimmers and one diver to this year's competition.
Freshman Jenny Macaulay (Etobicoke, Ontario) rounded out a spectacular first season in style, competing in the 200 and 400 individually medley events at this year's national championships. In the first day of competition, Macualay finished 42nd in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.23.
Macaulay put that race behind her and prepared herself for the 400 IM. After the preliminary heat, she stood in 15th place with a time of 4:19.40, good for a trip to the finals later that evening. Her mark of 4:19.40 set a new University record, bettering the 4:24.46 mark set by Jena Prideaux '96. In the finals, Macaulay clocked in with a time of 4:19.9, finishing twelfth nationally. For her performance, Macaulay earned honorable mention All-America honors, an incredible feat for a freshman.
Kate Conroy (Fr., Haddonfield, N.J.) took to the pool for the 100 backstroke in her first trip the championships. Conroy finished in 19th place with a time of 55:83. Since only the top 16 advance to the finals, Conroy did not make the finals.
Erin Lutz (So., Hopewell, N.J.) competed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Lutz finished with a score of 361.9 in the 1M event, good for 25th place. She bettered that standing in the 3M event, tallying 452.95 points for 18th in the final national standings.
Both Conroy and Macaulay will compete Sunday night to round out competition.
