PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Tesa Ho (F, Honolulu, Hawaii) hit a baseline shot from five feet out with 15 seconds remaining to give the Princeton Tigers a 51-50 win over Belarussia in exhibition action in Jadwin Gym tonight.
Princeton jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening minutes, but lost the lead at the 12:42 mark in the first half. The Tigers never reclaimed the lead until Ho's game-winner in the closing seconds.
The Tigers played catch-up most of the game, shaving a 12 point deficit in the first half to trail by only four going into intermission, 24-29. A four minute and 19 second scoreless streak to open the second half left Princeton down by eleven.
Belarussia extended their lead to 12 with just over 12 minutes remaining. Princeton got within two on a three-pointer by Maggie Langlas (Jr., G, Missoula, Mont.) with less that six minutes to go. Both teams traded baskets, with Belarussia leading 49-50 with 1:19 left to play.
After a personal foul and missed shot by Belarussia, Princeton had the ball with 35.2 seconds. Langlas drove into the lane and dished to Ho on the baseline for the short jumper.
Ho scored the Tigers' final six points to lead the team with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Kate Thirolf (Jr., G, Rockville, MD) and Langlas each added 10 points. Senior co-captain Lea Ann Drohan (C, Ballston Lake, NY) handed out four assists.
Belarussia's Janna Gordetskaya led all scores with 18 points. She also collected eight rebounds and four steals in the losing effort.
The Tigers open their season at Lehigh on Nov. 18. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
