Angell Scores Career High in Eighth Straight Win

PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton's Julie Angell (Sr., Plymouth, Mich) scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Tigers to a 64-57 win over Cornell (8-10, 2-4 Ivy). With Harvard losing on the road 59-44 to Yale, tonight's win leaves the Tigers sitting atop the Ivy standings.
With the score knotted at 11 each 7:27 into the opening period, Princeton went on a 11-2 run to open a 22-13 lead with 9:05 to play in the period. The Big Red put together a run of their own to cut the Tiger lead to one with 6:52 on the clock. Cornell's Breean Walas collected a steal and hit a lay-up with 38 seconds to trail the Tigers 29-27 at intermission.
Angell chipped in 10 in the opening period. Hillary Reser (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) added six points and four rebounds.
The season-high crowd of 757 at Jadwin Gym saw Princeton lead by as many as 12 in the second half, coming away with the seven-point win.
Angell led all scorers with 21 points, including a 3 for 5 showing from behind the arc. The Tigers had a balanced scoring attack with Kate Thirolf (Jr., Rockville, Md.) and Reser each chipped in nine and Lea Ann Drohan (Sr., Ballston Lakes, N.Y.) added eight. Drohan also pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Walas led the Big Red with 19 points, and Jennifer Linker added a career-high 14 rebounds.
The Tigers (10-7, 5-0 Ivy) will return to action on Friday, Feb. 5, as they travel to Harvard. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
