PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior tri-captain Kate Thirolf (Jr., Rockville, Md.) tied a season-high as she scored 21 points for the Tigers in the 67-48 win over Brown (11-11, 6-4 Ivy) tonight at Jadwin Gym. Four Tigers scored in double figures as Princeton won their 13th game of the season. With a Dartmouth loss, the Tigers now claim sole possession of first place in the Ivy League.
Brown's Julie Amato scored a lay-up at 15:53 to cut Princeton's lead to three. Over the next nine minutes the Tigers outscored the Bears 21-4 to take a 30-9 lead with 6:09 on the clock. Maggie Langlas (Jr., Missoula, Mont.) hit a free throw with 2.4 seconds remaining to give Princeton a 39-19 lead at the half. Princeton shot 59.3 percent from the floor while holding Brown to 7 of 30 for 23 percent in the first half.
Lauren Rigney (Fr., Marlborough, Mass.) led the Tigers in the first half, tying a career-high 11 points in 11 minutes of play. Thirolf and Langlas each added eight in the opening period.
Despite the winter weather and cold shooting in the first half, the Bears refused to hibernate as they used a full-court press to force 14 Tigers turnover is in the second half, leading to 14 Brown points. Brown put together a 12-3 run to cut the Princeton lead to nine that ended with a three-pointer by Thirolf at the 10:15 mark.
The Bears got as close as seven on a pair of Redding free throws to make the score 53-47 with just under seven minutes to play, but that was as close as they would get as the Tigers ended the game on a 14-2 run for the 19-point victory.
Thirolf lead all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Erica Bowman (Jr., Covington, Ohio), who replaced the injured Julie Angell in the starting line-up, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points. Besides Thirolf, three other Tigers scored in double figures led by Langlas with 13 points and seven assists, Lauren Rigney with 11 and Lea Ann Drohan (Sr., Ballston Lakes, N.Y.) added 10 points and three blocks.
Brown was led by Vita Redding with 19 points and three steals. Rada Pavichevich chipped in 12 points and five steals.
The win marks the first four-game sweep of the Yale/Brown series since the Ivy League began double round robin play in 1982-83.
The Tigers (13-8, 8-1 Ivy) will return to action on Friday, Feb. 19, as they host Dartmouth. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
