Today's Note of the Day
- Out of the gates - At 5-0 the Tigers are off to their best start in league play since double round robin play began in 1982-83. Princeton went 5-0 against league competition in 1977-78, including a 72-56 win over Harvard in Cambridge.
- Streakin' - Princeton's eight-game winning streak is the longest
in-season
streak since the 1977-78 squad tallied nine consecutive victories. Three
of those wins came in league play.
- Center of attention - Senior center Lea Ann Drohan currently ranks
third
in the league in blocked shots, averaging 1.06 swats per game. Harvard's
Rose Janowski places first in the Ivy with 1.20 each game.
- Bombs away - Maggie Langlas leads the Tigers with 40 three-pointers
this
season. With three last weekend, she now has 110 shots from long range for
her career, placing her third all-time, surpassing Laura Leacy '94 who
graduated with 108. Next up is Kim Allen who tallied 168 from 1993-97.
- History lesson - In the first 24 meetings, Princeton defeated Harvard
on
18 occassions. In the 16 meetings following, the Tigers are 4-12 against
the Crimson.
- More history - Princeton is 1-5 against the Crimson under Liz Feeley. The Tigers' last win in Cambridge came in a 69-56 decision in the 1993-94 season.
- Windex - Princeton holds a 356-346 advantage on the boards in games it
has
won. In their seven losses, the Tigers were out-rebounded by nearly 11
boards per game.
- On a high note - The Tigers recored season-highs in points (68)
against
Columbia and assists (17) against Cornell. Against the Lions, Princeton
shot 47.7 percent from the floor. That is the highest game percetage for
the Tigers this season.
- On a high note II - Kate Thirolf scored a season-high 21 points,
including
four three-pointers, in the win over Columbia.
- Where she ranks - Maggie Langlas ranks fourth in Ivy scoring (15.6),
third
in Ivy field goal pct. (45%), first in 3-pt field goal pct (42%) and first
in free-throw pct. (89%).
- Ivy items - Despite averaging 52.8 points in out of league
competition,
the Tigers are cashing in 63.4 in Ivy action.
- Career night - Julie Angell scored a career-high 21 points on 5-11
shooting, 3-5 from behind the arc, against Cornell.
- 1-2 punch - Harvard and Princeton rank 1-2 in field goal percentage
against Ivy opponents, shooting 45 and 42 percent respectively.
- D-plus - Princeton leads the Ivy League in three defensive catagories:
scoring defense (56.6 ppg), FG% defense (0.382) and 3-point FG% defense
(0.286).
- On the flip side - Dartmouth leads the league in four offensive
catagories: scoring offense (71.24 ppg), scoring margin (6.06), FG%
(0.436) and 3-point FG% (0.365).
- Climbing the ladder - With 122 career blocks, Lea Ann Drohan is tied
with
Carol Puza '83 all-time. Next up is Joanna E. Rein who swatted 133 from
1986-90.
- Spreading the wealth - In four league games so far this season, the
Tigers
have had four different leading scorers and four different leading
rebounders.
- Seeing double - Only two schools in Division I, Princeton and Duke, have both their men's and women's teams unbeaten in league play.
