Today's Note of the Day
Climbing Ivy — Tonight's game marks the opener of the 2000 Ivy League season. The Tigers are 9-8 in league openers since 1982, when the round-robin system was implemented. Princeton is 3-2 when it opens Ivy play against Pennsylvania, including last year's 67-58 overtime victory at the Palestra.
Five more notes no fan should be without
History lesson — This will be the 47th meeting between the Tigers and the Quakers, With Princeton holding a 33-13 advantage in the series. The two teams split a pair of games last season, each winning on the road. The Tigers have won six of eight against Pennsylvania under head coach Liz Feeley.
Homecourt advantage — Kate Thirolf is shooting higher than 58% from the floor at Jadwin Gym and 47% from long range. She leads the team in scoring at 9.1 ppg.
Homecourt advantage II — The Tigers' only two victories this season have come at home. In five games at Princeton, the Orange and Black are shooting 45% from the floor, including 37% from behind the tree-point arc. In contrast, the Tigers are hitting less than a third of their field goals and less than a quarter of their three-point attempts.
Sharpshooter — Freshman Allison Cahill had a career-best 13 points and five rebounds at Providence. All three of her field goals came from behind the arc.
Sharpshooter II — Cahill went 4 for 4 from the charity stripe against the Friars. She leads the team in free-throw percentage.

Looking grand — In the final game of the 1999 calendar year, seniors Maggie Langlas and Kate Thirolf became the 12th and 13th players to reach the 1,000-point plateau for their respective careers. Both hit the millennium mark on three-pointers at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawaii against Fairfield. Langlas recorded No. 1,000 late in the first half, while Thirolf reached a grand after intermission.
Same place, same milestone, different team — Last season Princeton's Gabe Lewellis scored his 1,000th career-point at the Stan Sheriff Center against Texas in the Rainbow Classic.
Driving force — Sophomore Lauren Rigney scored nine of her team-high 13 points in the final 2:46 at Providence on two driving layups and four free throws.
More Lauren — After averaging 2.2 points during the first five games, Rigney averaged 7.0 points in the last eight, including a career-high 14 against Siena.
Long range thinking — Allison Cahill has attempted more shots from three-point range (36) than from inside the arc (23). Twelve of Cahill's 20 made field goals have come from long range.
Climbing the ladder— Kate Thirolf needs only three more tries from behind the arc to move into second place on the all-time list for career three-point attempts. She currently stands with 520 shots from long range, behind Kim Allen '97, who tallied 523 from 1993-97. Maggie Langlas is behind Thirolf with 465 career attempts from three-point land.
In case you forgot— Princeton shared the 1998-99 Ivy League title with Dartmouth with an 11-3 Ivy mark, its first league championship since 1985.
Didn't we just have a break? — The Tigers will take a 16-day hiatus for reading period and final exams. Princeton will return to action on Jan. 24, as it hosts local rival Rider at 5:30 p.m.
