EASTON, Pa. - The Tigers took their fifth consecutive loss of the 2000-01 season at the hands of Lafayette College 58-48. The last time Princeton opened the season with an 0-5 record was in 1996-97 when the team opened 0-5 before beating Fairleigh Dickinson 70-53.
Princeton (0-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the contest but that would be the only lead the Tigers would have all game. Lafayette (3-4) took advantage of Princeton's 14 turnovers in the first half to go into halftime up 27-16.
The Tigers were able to cut their deficit to six points at 38-32 with 10:00 left in the second half off a three-pointer by center Maureen Lane. A field goal by freshman Megan Haughey gave Lafayette an eight point cushion but Princeton came back with another three, this time by Allison Cahill, and the Leopard advantage was cut to five at 40-35.
That would be as close as the Tigers could get, however, as Lafayette took control and led by no less than seven points as Princeton had no choice but to foul in order to stop the clock.
Lafayette controlled the boards in the Patriot League-Ivy League matchup, outrebounding the Tigers 53-29.
Tiger forward Lee Culp finished with 14 points while Lane recorded a team-high 17 on the night.
