Princeton Holds On In Overtime for 55-52 Victory

Princeton, NJ - Senior Maggie Langlas (Missoula, Mont.) scored five of her game-high 18 points in overtime to lead the women's basketball team to a 55-52 win over Brown at Jadwin Gym. The win snapped a two-game losing skid and put the first mark in the Ivy League win column for the Tigers.
Princeton lead for the majority of the first half, building its biggest lead at 25-13 with 6:43 to play in the first half on a three-pointer by Maureen Lane (Fr., Seattle, Wash.). Brown outscored the Tigers 12-7 in the final five minutes, and Princeton led 27-22 at halftime.
The second half saw six ties and three lead changes, with the Bears taking their first lead after intermission at 33-32 on a three-pointer by Erin-Kate Barton with 15:36 on the clock. Neither team led by more than four points over the next 12 minutes, and Brown led 48-44 on a jumper by Ragan Kenner with 3:16 to play. Two free throws by Hilary Reser (So., Beaverton, Ore.) with 1:05 remaining knotted the score at 48-48. Brown's leading scorer Barbara Maloni connected on two shots from the free throw line to give the Bears a 50-48 lead with 30 ticks on the clock. Four seconds later Langlas knocked down a pair from the charity stripe for the 50-50 deadlock at the end of regulation. Both teams came out shaky in the overtime period, combining for four turnovers and zero points in the first 2:45. Langlas drained a three-pointer with 2:11 on the clock for a 53-50 lead. Brown's Cathy Miller hit two free-throws to bring the Bears within one with 18 seconds remaining. Heidi Egelhoff fouled Langlas, who knocked down both free-throws for the 55-52 final score.
Langlas led all scores with 18 points, while Reser tallied nine points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds. Lauren Rigney (So., Marlborough, Mass.) handed out five assists and had two blocked shots in a season-high 42 minutes. Kate Thirolf (Sr., Rockville, Md.) added eight points and four assists in 23 minutes of play.
The Bears were led by Maloni with 14 points, while Miller recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
With the win the Tigers improve to 4-14 on the year, 1-3 in Ivy League play. The Bears drop to 5-14, 0-5 Ivy. Princeton will be back in action tomorrow as it hosts Yale at 7 p.m.
