Today's Note of the Day
An unfamiliar situation -- The last time Princeton lost four of its first five Ivy games was during the 1988-89 season, in which the Tigers went 13-12 overall and 6-8 in league play.
Five more notes fan should be without
History lesson -- The Tigers have lost four of the last five against the Big Green dating back to the 1996-97 season. Dartmouth holds a 25-16 advantage in the all-time series.
More history -- Princeton is 3-6 against Dartmouth under Liz Feeley and have an even 2-2 record in those games played in Hanover.
What a difference a break makes -- After averaging 6.5 points in the first two games of 2000, Maggie Langlas has averaged 15.4 points per game in the five games after exams, including a season-high 22 points against Columbia.
Miss All-Purpose-- Not only is Maggie Langlas leading the team in scoring, but she tops the list in steals (31) and blocked shots (11). She recorded six of Princeton's nine steals against Brown last Friday.
A little more Maggie-- Maggie Langlas is on pace to finish with 1,187 career points, which would place her seventh on the all-time scoring list. She is currently in 10th place with 1,094 points. She needs only 13 points to surpass Laura Leacy '94, who scored 1,106 from 1990-94.
Others receiving votes
Positive progression -- Lauren Rigney has scored more points in 19 games this season (114) than she did in 27 games a year ago (90).
Opening act -- Princeton is 4-5 when it leads at halftime. The Tigers have never come back from a halftime deficit, going 0-10 when trailing at the break. The only time Princeton won the game when it trailed at the half was the preseason exhibition game, in which it outscored Roto Banska 45-20 in the final 20 minutes for the 67-46 final score.
Do we have to play all 40 minutes? -- In 19 games this season, the Tigers have been outscored by 208 points in the second half (10.95 ppg). Princeton has outscored its opponent after intermission on three occasions this year (by a total of eight points), posting a 2-1 record.
Taking control -- Over the last six games Brooke Lockwood has handed out 21 assists and committed only 12 turnovers. In the 13 previous games, Lockwood had 23 assists and 26 turnovers.
Block party -- The Tigers have tallied 30 blocked shots on the year. Dartmouth's Katherine Hanks leads the Big Green with 25 rejections.
Point, counterpoint -- Princeton's average margin of victory is 7.0 points, while its margin of defeat is 17.1 points. The Tigers have lost four Ivy League games by a combined 27 points (6.75 points per loss).
Windex -- Princeton held a 49-40 edge on the boards against Brown and edged Yale 37-35 on the glass. The Tigers are 3-1 when outrebounding their opponents and 0-14 when giving up the advantage on the glass.
Young gun -- Freshman Lee Culp scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds--her highest totals to date--against Yale.
On the road again -- The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they continue Ivy League play against Harvard at 6 p.m.
