NORFOLK, Va. - So far this season, the weather had been nothing but sunny and warm. This afternoon in cool, cloudy weather the Princeton baseball team lost 10-1 to Old Dominion at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex in Norfolk, Va. The first two games of this series averaged a total of 15 runs and a total of 26 hits.
Old Dominion dented the scoreboard first, in the bottom of the second. The Monarchs scored on a wild pitch. Princeton came right back with a run in the top of the third. Max Krance (Jr., South, Nyack, N.Y.) hit a bloop into left centerfield to score Pat Boran (So., Pottsville, Pa.). The Tigers left three runners on base in the third inning
Hard-throwing freshman Scott Hindman (Inverness, Ill.) made his long-awaited debut for the Tigers. Hindman, who was selected in the 49th round of the 1999 draft by the Cincinnati Reds, pitched three-plus innings, gave up two hits, one run and struck out two before leaving with stiffness in his elbow. After giving up a leadoff double and a walk in the bottom of the fifth, Nick Pappas (So., Metaire, La.) struck out two batters and got a fly out to stop the Old Dominion threat.
The Monarchs broke the 1-1 deadlock with a two-run sixth inning. An Eric Voelker (So., Medford, N.J.) error with the bases loaded allowed both runs to score. Old Dominion scored seven more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final tally.
Krance ended the day 3 for 4 with the lone Princeton RBI. Voelker was 2 for 3 as was Buster Small (Sr., Alpharetta, Ga.).
