WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Two-out lightning struck early on this sunny afternoon in Williamsburg, Va. The Princeton baseball team scored seven runs in the first four innings against William and Mary. All the runs came with two outs. The Tigers eventually won the game with a score of 7-3
After losing the last two games to Old Dominion by a total of 15 runs, the Princeton baseball team wanted to start quickly against William and Mary. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first thanks to a two-out double by Eric Voelker (So., Medford, N.J.) that scored Pat Boran (So., Pottsvile, Pa.) and Andrew Hanson (Jr., Cumberland, Maine). Voelker added another two-RBI hit in the second inning as did Jon Watterson (Jr., Keene, N.H.) and Hanson. Casey Hildreth (Jr., Westfield, Mass.) slapped a two-out RBI single to score Max Krance (Jr., South Nyack, N.Y.) in the fourth inning.
The quick start was just what Ryan Quillian (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) needed in his first career start on the mound. The rookie gave up only two hits through three innings and sent the Tribe down in order in the second inning.
William and Mary had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Quillian allowed only one run which came on a sacrifice fly. Quillian got an infield fly and a strike out to end the threat. Quillian left the game after pitching six innings. He gave up nine hits and struck out three while walking no Tribe batters.
David Boehle (Fr., Redwood City, Calif.) got out of a bases loaded one-out jam with a pop up and two fly outs. Boehle pitched three innings, gave up four hits, one walk and struck out two for his second save in as many appearances.
Voelker went 3 for 5 with four RBIs and Hanson was 3 for 5 with an RBI. Hildreth was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Watterson was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
