RICHMOND, Va. - After being rained out of yesterday's game at VMI, the Princeton baseball team headed to Richmond to play Virginia Commonwealth, the 28th-ranked team in the country. The Tigers lost to the Rams by the score of 12-3. Today's game was played at The Diamond, the home ballpark of the Triple A Richmond Braves. With the loss, Princeton falls to 2-5, while VCU moves to 17-8.
Princeton got an RBI double by Max Krance and an RBI single from Casey Hildreth in the top of the first for the early 2-0 lead.
The Rams came back with a few runs of their own in the bottom of the second when Cory Bauswell hit a wind-aided, opposite-field, two-run, two-out home run.
VCU would add three runs in the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fourth. Three more runs came for the Rams in the bottom of the sixth.
Princeton had a chance to get back in the game in the top of the sixth. The Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out, but a strike out and a fly-out double play ended the inning before any runs would cross.
Jason Quintana pitched six innings for the Tigers. He gave up eight earned runs, walked four and struck out four. Krance ended the game 2 for 3 with an RBI and Hildreth was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Rams starter Jason DuBois threw eight innings, giving up one earned run, walked two and struck out 10.
