Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. - Mental errors and booted ground balls caused the Princeton baseball team to lose last night's game to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams. Some of the same thing happened this afternoon in Richmond Va. The Tigers fell to the Rams by the score of 9-2 and are now 2-6 on the season. VCU advances to 18-8 on the year.
The Rams got all the runs they would need in the second inning. An error on the second batter of the inning opened the door to a seven run inning. The Rams were paced in the inning by a three-run home run by Jason DuBios. Princeton starting pitcher Tom Rowland was only charged with three earned runs.
Andrew Hanson put the Tigers on the board in the top of the sixth inning with his first home run of the year. That was the only offense the Tigers would muster all day.
Rowland pitched five complete innings, giving up one walk and three earned runs. Tim Phillips was 2 for 3 on the day with two doubles and a walk. Hanson was 2 for 4 with his home run.
