Today's Note of the Night
Not bad odds -- Over the last 19 years (since 1981), Princeton has suffered a two-game sweep to Yale only three times. In only one of those three season did the first loss occur in Princeton. During the 1988-89 season, the Tigers lost to the Bulldogs 72-65 at Old Nassau before dropping a 68-53 decision in New Haven.
Five more notes fan should be without
History lesson -- The Tigers had won four straight against the Bulldogs entering the 2000 league season, but the Elis snapped that streak with a 67-58 win earlier this year. Princeton leads the all-time series 29-23.
More history -- Princeton is 5-4 against Yale under head coach Liz Feeley and has an even 2-2 record in those games played in New Haven.
Block party -- Princeton swatted six Harvard shots last Friday night, led by Lauren Rigney, who had three rejections against the Crimson. She is second on the team with 11 blocks.
Climbing the ladder-- Maggie Langlas is on pace to graduate with 1,195 career points, good for seventh all-time at Princeton. She currently stands in eight place with 1,158 points and needs seven points to tie Margaret Meier '78, who tallied 1,165.
Same ladder, different rung-- With 1,124 career points, Kate Thirolf is 10th on the all-time scoring list. With 16 points against Dartmouth, Thirolf surpassed Jackie Jackson to break into the Top 10.
Others receiving votes
Rising Reser -- After averaging 2.85 points per game in the first 20 games of the season, sophomore Hillary Reser is averaging 11.6 points per game in the last five, including a team-high 18 points against Dartmouth.
More Reser -- Hillary Reser shot 60% from the floor, including a 3 of 5 performance from three-point land, to lead the Tigers with a season-high 18 points against the Big Green. She had seven rebounds--second highest total on the team--two assists and two steals in a season-high 37 minutes of play.
Nothing but net -- Freshman Allison Cahill was perfect from the floor against Dartmouth, connecting on all three field goals attempts, all from long range, and hit 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. Cahill came off the bench for 11 points, three steals and an assist in 16 minutes of action against the Big Green.
Opening act -- Princeton is 7-5 when it leads at halftime. The Tigers have never come back from a halftime deficit, going 0-13 when trailing at the break. The only time Princeton won the game when it trailed at the half was the preseason exhibition game, in which it outscored Roto Banska 45-20 in the final 20 minutes for the 67-46 final score.
Windex -- The Tigers are 2-15 when they are outrebounded by their opponents this season. Princeton is 5-3 when it holds the advantage on the boards. The Tigers outrebounded Harvard on both occassions this season and lost. The only other time Princeton had more rebounds and lost was the 67-58 loss to Yale at Princeton.
Control freak -- In nine Ivy League games, Kate Thirolf has dished out 26 assists and collected 11 steals while committing only 12 turnovers.
On the road again -- The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they continue Ivy League play against Brown at 7 p.m.
