Tigers Drop Fifth Straight

RICHMOND, Va. - The Princeton baseball team lost its fifth straight game this afternoon. The Tigers fell 7-6 to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams at The Diamind in Richmond, Va. Princeton falls to 2-7 on the year.
After VCU jumped out to a 3-0 lead int eh bottom of the first inning, Princetoncame back with three runs of its own in the top of the second inning. Max Krance led off the inning with a single. He would later score on an error. Buster Small scored on an RNI ground out by Ryan Achterberg. Jay Mitchell had an RBI single to plate Eric Voelker. The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when VCU took a 4-3 lead on a leadoff triple and the subesquent RBI ground out.
In the top of the Sixth, Princeton battled back to tie the game agian. The Tigers took advantage of every break they were given. Small leadoff the inning with a hit and was called safe at second on a questionable call by the second base umpire on a fielder's choice by Eric Voelker. Small would later score on an infield hit by Mitchell. After the questionable call at second, VCU head coach Paul Keyes was ejected for arguing the call.
The Rams got a two-run home run and an RBI double to take a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Princeton came back with two runs in the top of the seventh. Voelker hit a single that knocked in two runs to make the score 7-6 in favor of the Rams. The final six outs were recorded in order for the 7-6 VCU win.
Mitchell was 2 for 4 with two RBIs on the day. Small was also 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Andrew Hanson was 2 for 5 with a double and Max Krance also added a double on his 2 for 3 day.
