Box Score
PRINCETON, N.J.-- Brie Galicinao (So., Stockton, Calif.) hit a fly ball to right field that was just deep enough to score Lauren Poniatowski (Jr., Haddon Heights, N.J.) from third base in the fourth inning of the fourth game of the Princeton Invitational.
It doesn't seem like much of an offensive highlight, but Galicinao made sure it was the only one that mattered. The sophomore pitched a masterpiece, allowing only two hits in a complete-game shutout of Boston College. The Tigers, who defeated Fairfield 3-2 earlier in the afternoon, held on for a 1-0 victory. In all likelihood, the Tigers will play in the championship game tomorrow after playing Temple at 11:30 a.m. The Owls would need to beat Princeton by nine runs and have Boston College win to move ahead of the Tigers and into the championship game. Galicinao pitched her best game of the season against the Eagles, who swept Princeton at Class of 1895 Field last season. She allowed only one walk and struck out three batters and retired 14 straight batters before Lauren Fischetti's two-out double in the seventh inning made things interesting. Lisa Fischer grounded out to third to end the game.
The win against Fairfield was just as exciting, as an early 3-0 lead for the Tigers quickly became a tight 3-2 lead. Sarah Peterman (Sr., Davis, Calif.) got the win by striking out Ellen Sarosy with a runner at third base in the bottom of the seventh inning. Peterman struck out four batters and didn't allow an earned run in the win, her fourth of the season.
Sarah Jane White (So., Winter Park, Fla.) had the key hit of the afternoon, a two-run double that scored Galicinao and Vicki Siesta (Jr., West Milford, N.J.). Lori Volker (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-2 with a stolen base. Princeton got its first run in the third inning when Mackenzie Forsythe (Fr., Lake Oswego, Ore.), who doubled to lead off the inning, scored on a balk.
Boston College defeated Temple 8-0 to open the Invitational. The Owls rallied in the second game to defeat Fairfield 4-2. Boston College will play Fairfield in the first game tomorrow, followed by Princeton and Temple. The consolation game will start at 1:30 and the championship game will be at 3:30. All games will be at the Class of 1895 Field.
