Princeton softball team splits at Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In its first action of the year, the Princeton softball team split a pair of games at Maryland's Terrapin Invitational, defeating La Salle 4-0 and falling to Maryland 6-5.
Junior leftfielder Lori Volker was 2 for 2 and knocked in a pair of runs in the Tigers victory over La Salle. Senior pitcher Sarah Peterman went the distance, yielding just four hits and recording six strikeouts. Playing first base, sophomore Brie Galicinao was 1 for 3 and had an RBI.
In the second game, host Maryland scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 win. The Terrapins jumped out to a 4-0, first-inning lead on Galicinao, who got the start for the Tigers. Princeton tied the score with four runs in the fourth and took a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Princeton collected only three hits, one by Galicinao that drove in a run. The Tigers benefited from six Maryland errors.
Princeton will face Connecticut and La Salle on Sunday, March 5.
