Hildreth Powers Princeton to Split

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior catcher and designated hitter Casey Hildreth (Westfield, Mass.) was 4 for 6 in today's two games against Brown with two home runs, had five RBIs and scored four runs to end a week-long tear and lead the Princeton baseball team to an Ivy League doubleheader split with the Brown Bears. Princeton (11-13, 4-4 Ivy) won the first game 11-7 and Brown (12-17, 4-4 Ivy) won the second game by the score of 13-4. Princeton got help from Harvard this afternoon as the Crimson swept Penn to put both teams at 4-4 in the league. Results from the Dartmouth vs. Columbia and the Cornell vs. Yale games were not available.
Both Princeton and Brown exchanged three runs in the first inning of game one. Princeton got its runs on a three-run home run by Hildreth. Brown came back and scored another three in the bottom of the second, only to have Princeton take a 7-6 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Tim Phillips (Jr., Audubon, Pa.), sacrifice fly by Andrew Hanson (Jr., Cumberland, Maine) and an RBI single by Hildreth. Brown tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by Jeff Lawler, but Princeton tallied for four runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a pinch-hit three-run home run by Max Krance.
Ryan Quillian (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) pitched six innings, gave up six earned runs, struck out eight and walked only one for his second win of the season. Hildreth was 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Hanson was 2 for 3 with three runs.
Game 2 saw the Bears jump out to an 11-1 lead and never look back. Brown got a two-run home run in the first from Shaun Gallagher. In all Brown put up 18 hits in the game. Starting pitcher Jason Quintana (Sr., Chester, N.J.) was roughed up in the early going. He was tapped for nine runs--four earned--and 10 hits and suffered his second loss of the season.
Andrew Hanson was 2 for 5 and Hildreth added his second home run to his 2000 resume. Phillips hit his first home run of the season in a pinch-hitting situation.
Princeton takes on Monmouth in a non-conference match up on Thursday in West Long Branch.
