PRINCETON, N.J. - The women's open crew won its 11th consecutive 1975 Cup, donated by members of the Princeton women's Class of 1975, with a first-place finish in Saturday's competition on Lake Carnegie in Princeton. The Tigers won the varsity eight race in a time of 6:40.30, followed by Radcliffe in second and Cornell in third. Miami finished in fourth.
Princeton took a slight lead off the start, never by more than a couple seats, followed by Radcliffe and Cornell, with guest crew Miami off the pace early. Approaching the 1000-meter mark, Radcliffe made a strong move to pull away from Cornell and draw just about even with Princeton as the bows surged at the midway point of the race. Princeton immediately pushed away, earning much of the final margin of victory in the third 500 meters. The Big Red closed in on Radcliffe over the final quarter of the race.
The Tigers finished first in the second varsity race, nearly 12 seconds ahead of Cornell. The Big Red won the varsity four and second novice eight races.
Conditions: light headwind, drizzle, flat water
