NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After going 1-3 in its first Ivy League weekend of the season, the Princeton baseball team got just what the doctor ordered--a sweep of Yale. It came in grand fashion. Princeton won the first game 9-0 and the second game 6-1.
Chris Young tied a career high with 10 strikeouts and held the Bulldogs hitless for 5.2 innings for his first win of the year. He held Yale to one hit on the day and avenged a loss that he suffered with the basketball team in February.
Princeton had a 3-0 lead going into the seventh inning when it busted out for six runs on five hits. Jon Watterson was the only Tiger with more than one hit and he was 2 for 4. He also had two RBIs.
The second game was closer than the score showed. The Tigers got a complete game from Tom Rowland that rested a depleted pitching staff and moved Rowland to 2-3 on the season. He gave up only five hits, struck out seven and walked none.
Pat Boran was 3 for 6 and had three RBIs. Andrew Hanson was 2 for 5.
Princeton is now 9-12 on the season, 3-3 Ivy League and plays Brown tomorrow afternoon.
