MADERA, Calif. - The Princeton University men's golf team showed a dramatic improvement from the first round to the second round, cutting 16 strokes from an opening-day 315 to post a 299 on Friday. The score won't do much for the Tigers' dreams of reaching the NCAA championship meet, as they stand in 23rd place with one round remaining.
Judd Pritchard again led the way for the Tigers with a 151 (75-76). He currently stands in a six-way tie for 99th place. Cassidy Traub shot a 153, which included Princeton's best performance so far on the back nine (81-72). Traub is tied for 106th place, just ahead of Peter McWhorter, who is tied for 122nd place after shooting a 156 (80-76). James Milam shot a 157 (82-75) and is in 124th place, one spot ahead of Nat Hoopes. The Ivy League individual champion struggled to a 158 (79-79).
Byu currently leads the competition with a 557, one stroke better than Arizona. Fresno State and Southern California are within three strokes of the lead. Princeton (614 overall) is 20 strokes behind San Diego State University (594) in its race to get into the Top 20. Wright State is 21st with a 600 and Long Beach State is 22nd with a 612.
