LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Thanks to some ninth inning heroics by Ryan Achterberg (So., Corona del Mar, Calif.) and Max Krance (Jr., South Nyack, N.Y.) the Princeton baseball team won its 22nd game of the 2000 season with a 11-9 win over Rider. The Tigers were trailing 8-7 in the top of the ninth before Achterberg hit a solo home run and Krance hit a bases-loaded double. David Boehle (Fr., Redwood City, Calif.) earned the win by throwing two innings and giving up one earned run.
Two of Princeton's weekend starting pitchers got some work in today in preparation for this weekend's Ivy League championship series with Dartmouth at Clarke Field. Ryan Quillian (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) earned the start and threw two scoreless innings. Jason Quintana (Sr., Chester, N.J.) also worked two innings but gave up a run. Princeton got a run in the fourth inning when Krance grounded out to the pitcher to score Jon Watterson (Jr., Keene, N.H.). Princeton scored three more runs in the top of the eighth when Pat Boran (So., Pottsville, Pa.) and Andrew Hanson Jr., Cumberland, Maine) singled to lead off the inning and Krance doubled them in. Krance would later score on a sacrifice fly by Buster Small (Sr., Alpharetta, Ga.).
Achterberg led off the ninth with his home run. The Tigers loaded the bases on a single, a hit by pitch and an intentional walk before Krance hit his bases clearing double.
Krance ended the day 2 for 5 with 6 RBIs. Boran was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Princeton travels to Seton Hall tomorrow afternoon at 3:00.
