Tigers Fall to Seton Hall, Ivy Championship Next

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - In a final non-conference game to get ready for this weekend's Ivy League championship series against Dartomouth, the Princeton baseball team lost to Seton Hall by the score of 4-2 in South Orange this afternoon.
Ryan Achterberg (So., Corona del Mar, Calif.) scored Princeton's first run of the game in the first inning on a bases loaded balk. The Tigers saw their 1-0 lead when starting pitcher Nick Pappas (So., Metiare, La.) gave up two runs to the Pirates in the bottom of the second inning.
Seton Halll added single runs in the fourth and the sixth innings before Princeton fought back for its second run of the game.
Buster Small (Sr., Alpharetta, Ga.) and Mickey Martin (Jr., Bridgewater, N.J.) led of the top of the seventh inning with back-to back singles and Eric Voelker (So., Medford, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice error to third base. Jay Mitchell (Sr., Canton, Mass.) then hit into a double play to score Small. Seton Hall closer Isaac Pavlik closed the door in the eight and ninth inning for the Pirates.
Achterberg was the only Princeton player with more than one hit. He was 2 for 3 with the run. Small was 1 for 4 with a run.
The Tigers next host Dartmouth in the Ivy championship series at Clarke Field on Saturday at noon. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a third game if necessary on Sunday. Princeton's Chris Young (So., Dallas, Texas) will pitch the first game of the series.
