Princeton Soccer Teams Win Mercer County Cup

West Windsor, N.J. - Freshman Katie Krum and sophomore Amee Reyes each scored goals that gave the Princeton women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Penn in the final game of the Mercer County Cup. Princeton lost to Penn in the final last year in the annual preseason tournament.
The Tigers beat The College of New Jersey 1-0 in sudden death overtime on a goal by Krum to advance to the final game.
Besides the fact that the win came against last year's cup winner and Ivy league rival Penn, the tournament was a good way for head coach Julie Shackford and the Tigers to note their preseason progress.
"Were not measuring our success in terms of wins and losses at this point," says Shackford, "It's great to put the kids in a competitive arena and see how they have progressed from last season and get a sense of what this year's team is going to be like. We are able to see what we have done over the first few days of preseason and determine our strengths and weaknesses."
The Princeton men's team successfully defended its title as the Tigers won their third straight Mercer Cup by beating Mercer County Community College1-0 in a shootout. Garrett Bartollotta scored the deciding penalty kick that gave the Tigers the win. Princeton beat Monmouth 2-1 also on a shootout penalty kick by Rob Nye in the semi final game.
