PRINCETON, N.J. - -- Heather Deerin's penalty kick lifted Princeton to a 1-0 win over Seton Hall in women's soccer Friday night. Deerin's opportunity came late in the second half after a Seton Hall defender took down a Princeton player inside the box. Derrin is a perfect 2-2 on penalty kicks this season.
"I've always been able to count on Heather under pressure," said coach Julie Shackford. "She is very competitive under pressure and comfortable with the ball." Princeton was strong on offense recording 18 shots to Seton Hall's five. Goalkeeper Jordan Rettig recorded a shutout with a key save late in the game.
"I was happy with our defense," said Shackford. "It wasn't the sharpest game by far. We usually move the ball better and we didn't capitalize on a lot of our chances. It was an ugly win but we competed hard."
Princeton returns to action at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Yale.
