PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's ice hockey team defeated Cornell 3-1 in ECAC and Ivy League action Sunday afternoon at Baker Rink. The Tigers scored the game-tying and game-winning goals on power plays in the second period.
Cornell got on the board first with Jenel Bode's short-handed goal at 9:09 in the second period. Princeton capitalized on the same Cornell penalty less than a minute later as Andrea Kilbourne flipped a drop pass from in front of the net to Aviva Grumet-Morris for the score. Laura Hays then notched the game-winner with a 5-on-3 power-play goal. Hays was assisted by Gretchen Anderson and Kilbourne.
Susan Hobson tipped in a rebound off an Angela Gooldy shot from inside the blue line at 3:10 in the third for the final Princeton goal and the 3-1 win. The Tigers (8-8-2, 4-8-2) out shot the Big Red (6-9-1, 4-9-1) 30-19 for the game. Freshman goaltender Megan Van Beusekom turned away 18 shots on goal to Cornell goalie Sanya Sandhal's 27.
