Princeton and Penn Battle to a 1-1 Draw in Women's Soccer Action

Philadelphia, Pa. - Theresa Sherry's (So., Baltimore, Ma.) goal at 71:41 gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead midway through the second half but Penn answered in the 86th minute to launched the game into overtime. After 30 minutes of overtime play, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. With the tie, the Tigers have clinched a share of the Ivy title and remain in first place of the league. Princeton moves to 12-1-2, 5-0-1 against league competition, Penn moves to 12-1-3, 4-1-1 against Ivy opponents.
Senior Catherine Glenn, (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished the day registering eight saves. On two occasions, Glenn made one-v-one saves against Penn's top threat, Katy Cross. Cross broke past the final Tiger defender with twenty seconds remaining in the match. Glenn came of her line and sliding to the ground, cut off the angle and kept the Tigers in the game. Minutes into the fist overtime, Cross again broke free yet was stopped by Glenn. Both teams had their share of shots go off posts and crossbars. Princeton took 20 shots and Penn registered 21. Quaker keeper, Vanessa Scotto picked up seven saves in the match.
Sherry scored when a low shot from Alex Fiore (Jr. Garden City, N.Y.) came off the hands Scotto. Coming in from the far side, Sherry got her foot on the ball and knocked into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season.
Penn evened the score when the Tigers failed to clear the ball from the box and Rebecca Weber, from the right side of the field scored on far post shot that beat Glenn.
'I didn't think that we played as strong as we could of," said head coach Julie Shackford, "but Catherine [Glenn] had a great game."
Princeton has clinched at least a share of the Ivy title and remains in first place in the League. Princeton will out-right win the Ivy League and secure the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament if they defeat the Bulldogs of Yale on Saturday, November 10. Penn must win against Harvard next week and the Tigers must lose to Yale next week if the Quakers are going to share the title.
The Tigers return home on Wednesday, November 7 at 5:30 when they take on Fairfield.
