Taylor Northrop, whose versatility and accomplishments make him the top all-around kicker in Princeton football history, was named a third-team Division I-AA All-America by The Sports Network.
Northrop, a senior from Jupiter, Fla., was Princeton's placekicker and punter for three years and kickoff specialist for four years. He was a four-time All-Ivy League selection, twice each as a punter and placekicker. He was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy placekicker this season.
In addition to Northrop, two other Ivy League players were honored. Brown wide receiver Chas Gessner and Harvard defensive lineman Marc Laborsky were both named second-team.
"I'm honored and excited," Northrop said. "It's a tremendous honor for me."
Northrop is Princeton's career record holder with 38 field goals, a total that ranks him second all-time in Ivy League history. He was 13 for 18 on field goal attempts and 16 for 16 on extra point attempts as a senior.
Among his missed field goals this season was a 57-yarder against Cornell that hit the crossbar. Even with that miss, Northrop is one of three kickers in Ivy League history with two career field goals of at least 50 yards, including a career-long 52-yarder as a junior.
Northrop, who will play in the East-West Shrine Game at Stanford Jan. 12, also punted 43 times for a 40-yard average. He also had a long of 67 yards, and 22 of his 43 punts ended inside the opponents' 20-yard-line.
