Princeton, NJ - It was a dominant day for the Tigers at the Princeton Invitational as both the men and women came away with wins over Bucknell, Drexel and Rider while the diving team took on Harvard at DeNunzio pool on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 24 Princeton women racked up 1,429.50 points to finish first ahead of second-place Bucknell, which had 529 total points. Drexel came in third with 261.50 and Rider finished fourth on the women's side.
The Princeton men won with 1,021 points, Drexel came in second with 578 points, Bucknell finished third with 447.50 and Rider placed fourth with 422.50. Both the men and women improved upon undefeated records with their first-place showing today. The women came in at 4-0 while the men started the day at 3-0.
Princeton came out of the gate quickly by taking the top two spots in event one, the women's 200-yard freestyle relay. The Princeton men answered with a first-place finish in event two, also the 200-yard freestyle relay. In fact, Princeton athletes took first place in each of the first seven events. The Tigers finished 1-2-3-4 in 16 events. Sophomore Molly Fraumann led a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 1650 free (16:47.18), sophomore Lisa Battaglia did the same in the 200-yard free (1:56.63), as did Juan Valdevieso on the men's side in the 200 free (1:43.81).
Senior Kate Conroy continued her early-season dominance with a victory in 100-yard back (56.78), another event Princeton went 1-2-3-4. Sophomore Meredith Saylor led a Tiger sweep in the 100-yard breast (1:07.88), senior Jocelyn Petrella led a sweep in the 200-yard fly and Princeton swept the 50-yard freestyle races with freshman Amy Jones (24.30) leading the women and junior Jesse Gage (20.79) leading the men.
Both the 200-yard IM and 100-yard free events were swept by the Orange and Black with 1-2-3-4 finishes on both the women's and men's side. Freshman Stephanie Hsiao led the women in 2:07.17 and senior Matthew Keay led the men in 1:55.64. Hsiao also led the Princeton charge in the 100 free (51.60) while junior Carl Hessler led the men with a time of 46.63. Hessler also led a sweep the 100-yard fly while Petrella led the way in a 1-2-3-4 finish for the women in the same event.
On the boards, Danielle Stamandi and Maggie Littlefield both qualified for the NCAA Zonal Championships on the platform with scores of 435 and 366.9 on the respectively. Stamandi finished first while Littlefield took second in the event. The men's platform saw Kent DeMond also qualify with his first-lace dive and a score of 525.22.
The men's swim team heads to West Point and takes on Army next Saturday, Dec. 8. The women are idle for the next month. They host Dartmouth on Sunday, Jan. 27.
