PRINCETON, N.J. - In front of a record women's basketball crowd of over 2,100 in Jadwin Gym, Princeton fell to rival Harvard 64-58. Hana Peljto paced the Crimson with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Katie Gates added 16 points, and Sarah Johnson came off the bench to pitch in 13 more for the Crimson on 6-8 shooting. The Tigers were led by an outstanding 21-point performance by Maureen Lane, who shot 5-8 on three-point attempts. Lee Culp added 10 points and four assists for Princeton.
Princeton (1-18, 1-5 Ivy) played inspired basketball in the first half to please the enthusiastic crowd, which came to celebrate National Women in Sports Day. The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead on two three-pointers by Lane and one from Hillary Reser. They maintained the momentum throughout the first half, and led 35-23 at halftime. However, Harvard regrouped and opened the second half with a 26-4 run to take control of the game and open up a 10-point lead. The Crimson (8-11, 5-1) continuously pressured Princeton with a full-court press in the second half, disrupting the Tiger offense. Though the Crimson led by 10 with just over two minutes to play, Princeton responded with good free throw shooting down the stretch but could come no closer than six.
Princeton will host Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
