NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Maureen Lane's 27 points paced the Princeton women's basketball team to its first win of the season in a 61-60 overtime victory against Yale Saturday night at the Lee Amphitheater. Lane shot a season and team high on 9-19 shooting from the field and 7-15 from behind the three-point line. Allison Cahill backed the Tigers with 10 points, Lauren Rigney added nine.
The Tigers (1-16, 1-3 Ivy) scored six points in overtime hitting two of seven shots from the field. Lane hit a clutch three-pointer at 1:30 to put Princeton up 59-58. Yale (5-14, 0-6 Ivy) responded with a lay-up to make it 60-59. Lee Culp scored the winning bucket on a lay-up with little more than two seconds remaining in the game.
"I thought we played really well in the first half and I knew that our team was capable of playing just as well in the second half," said head coach Kevin Morris. "The lead changed back and fourth all game but we hung in there. We had great contributions from a lot of players tonight including Maureen Lane offensively and Lauren Rigney had a great game defensively".
Princeton will host Dartmouth on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
