PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton men's swimming and diving team got through another year without losing a dual meet at DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers finished their regular home season Friday night with a 164-79 win over Columbia to remain undefeated on the season and undefeated at DeNunzio. Princeton won nine of 13 events and swept five.
The Tigers started off taking the top two places in the 400 medley relay. The team of Andrew Chadeayne, Garth Fealey, Jesse Gage and Hallett Johnson won the race with a time of 3:24.76. Craig Wales, Oliver Stroeh, Dan Reilly and Mike Salerno placed second (3:31.61). Carl Hessler (9:20.58) won the 1,000 free, followed by Kevin Weiner (9:26.24) and Paul Cremer (9:41.65) for the sweep. Jim Nash (1:41.68), Kevin Walsh (1:41.82) and Juan Valdivieso (1:42.25) went one-two-three in the 200 free. Senior Chris Gratian won the 50 free with a time of 21.21 and Matt Keay took the 200 breaststroke (2:09.27). Johnson won the 200 IM (1:54.48) followed by Chester Yarbrough in second place (1:54.95). Validivieso won the 200 fly (1:50.54) followed by Walsh (1:51.34) and Jeff Peterson (1:52.99) in second and third. Patrick Donahue (1:50.06), Eric Foster (1:52.08), and Carl Hessler (1:52.37) swept the 200 back while Gage (4:43.38), Nathan Rebuck (4:44.14) and Salerno (4:51.32) swept the 500 free. Michael Sullivan placed second in the one-meter diving (271.13) and third in the three-meter diving (274.87) for Princeton.
The Tigers (9-0, 7-0) will attempt to maintain their perfect record when they take on Navy on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Annapolis, Md. Princeton will swim at the Eastern Championships March 1-3 at West Point, N.Y.
