Higgins Throws Complete Game In 4-2 Princeton Victory

CONWAY, S.C. - Chris Higgins threw a complete game in Princeton's 4-2 win over Coastal Carolina (14-10) in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Higgins (1-1) threw 127 pitches, 76 for strikes. He gave up two runs on 10 hits and struck out three. The Tigers lost the second game 5-1.
Coastal Carolina's only runs of the game came on solo home runs by Randy McGarvey in the third inning and Ryan Powell, his second in two days, in the eighth inning.
The Tigers (3-5) scored all four of their runs on two hits in the sixth inning. Andrew Hanson and Pat Boran advanced on a wild pitch and scored on an error when pitcher Erin Jones threw the ball away trying to pick off Boran at third. After Max Krance reached on a base hit he advanced on an error by the third baseman and scored on Eric Voelker's ground out to the short stop. Casey Hildreth walked and eventually scored on another wild pitch by Jones. Scott Sturkie (3-4) shut down the Princeton offense in game two striking out the side three times in the seven-inning game.
Pat Boran singled in Hanson in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1. Ryan McGraw hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Chad Oxendine hit a solo shot in the sixth for CCU.
David Boehle (0-2) gave up five runs on nine hits in 6.0 innings pitched in the loss.
The Tigers play the final game of the series on Monday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m.
