Blue Devils Defeat Tigers 12-7

DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman Tim Lahey hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, the first home run of his career, but the damage had already been done by Duke. The Blue Devils (10-16) scored six runs on five straight base hits in the seventh inning for the 12-7 win over Princeton (4-9) on Friday. Duke pounded out 16 hits in the second game of the three-game series with the Tigers.
Duke opened the game scoring two runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, third baseman Sean McNally snagged a line drive down the left field line to end the inning.
Princeton responded with one run in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Eric Voelker hit a double down the left field line to score Max Krance who reached on a base hit and had advanced to second on an error by Duke's starting pitcher Kevin Thompson. Duke scored three runs on three hits in the fifth inning before erupting in the seventh inning. Princeton narrowed the lead scoring four runs in the top of the ninth. Connor O'Gorman was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and was followed by three Princeton walks. Voelker's two-RBI base hit scored Andrew Hanson and Krance. Voelker went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the game.
Tom Rowland (0-2) suffered the loss for the Tigers. Rowland gave up five runs on nine hits and struck out three over 5.0 innings pitched. Thompson improved to 5-2 with the win for Duke.
Princeton will wrap up the three-game series with Duke on Saturday, March 24 at 12:00
