Princeton Baseball Drops Home Opener to Rutgers, 3-1

PRINCTON, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers (4-13) lost their season home opener, 3-1 to Rutgers (17-7) Wednesday night at Clarke Field. Ryan Quillian (2-1) took the loss for Princeton giving up one run on two hits with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Jason Bergmann (1-1) picked up his first win of the season giving up one run on three hits and two strikeouts.
Princeton held Rutgers to three runs on eight hits and Billy McCarthy put all three runs on the board for the Scarlet Knights. The two teams played scoreless baseball unitl the fifth inning when McCarthy flew out to center field and scored Matt Wolksi who reached on an error.
Rutgers added to its 1-0 lead with two runs in the seventh inning. McCarthy doubled in Wolski who reached on a fielder's choice and Val Majewski who reached on a base hit.
Eric Voelker scored Casey Hildreth from first base with a triple for the Tiger's only run. Princeton committed four errors in the game and left six runners on base.
Princeton will play a pair of doubleheaders hosting Yale on Saturday, March 31 and Brown on Sunday, April 1. Game time is set at 11:30 with the second game to follow approximatley 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
