Princeton Men Place Second At EISL Swimming Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - March 3, 2001
Sophomore Carl Hessler won the 200 fly with a time of 1 minute 45.60 seconds at the EISL swimming and diving championships on Saturday. Hessler broke an eight-year-old meet record and a 29-year-old Crandall pool record that was held by former Olympic gold medal winner Mark Spitz. The Tigers finished second at the meet behind Harvard with 1,300.5 points, 259.5 behind the first-place Crimson.
Other winners for the Tigers' were sophomore Jesse Gage who won his second individual race in as many days. Gage won the 100 free with at time of 44.92 seconds after winning the 100 fly on Friday. Gage was the lead off swimmer for the first-place record-setting 400-free relay team of Hessler, Mike Salerno and Nathan Rebuck. The team set a meet record with a time of 2:57.66 breaking the two-year old mark.
