Cambridge, Mass. - Julia Beaver and the Yik family did it again.
Beaver stamped herself as one of the very best women's squash players of all time by winning her third straight individual championship, while David Yik emerged from a wide-open field to win the men's championship after his brother Peter had won the previous two years.
In a glorious day for Princeton squash, the fourth-seeded Yik beat unseeded Nicholas Kyme of Trinity in the final 3-1. Yik, a sophomore, had watched as his brother Peter won two straight the previous two years before he graduated, but Peter Yik had been a heavy favorite in his title runs. Yik came out of a scrambled draw to play his best at the right time.
As for Beaver, she had lost twice during the regular season, falling to Runa Reta of Penn and Nina Helal of Trinity. Fittingly, Beaver capped her career by avenging both losses, taking out Reta in four games in the semifinal and Helal in four games in the final.
