Tigers Split Doubleheader in Season Baseball Opener

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Princeton Tigers opened the 2001 baseball season with a win in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. Princeton defeated Southeast Missouri State 12-4 but dropped the second game, 8-2, to host Oklahoma State.
Princeton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Southeast Missouri State. Mickey Martin and Ryan Achterberg each drove in a run and Casey Hildreth had a two-run double in the first. Hildreth added a two-run single in the fourth. He was 3 for 4 in the game with with four RBIs. Andrew Hanson went 4 for 4 driving in two runs for Princeton. Ryan Quillian (1-0) gave up three runs on five hits and struck out four in six innings to pick up his first win of the season. Mark Siano gave up one run on four hits and struck out two for the save.
Hildreth drew a bases-loaded walk forcing in Jon Watterson in the first inning of the second game against 13th ranked Oklahoma State. Freshman Eric Fitzgerald reached on a walk, advanced to third on an error and scored on a double-play ball.
David Boehle (0-1) gave up five runs on five hits and struck out two in 3.2 innings for the loss. Tom Rowland finished the game scattering three runs on two hits over 4.1 innings.
Princeton will play Oklahoma State on Saturday, March 10 at 4:00 p.m.
