BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mike Chernoff went 4 for 5 with an RBI in Princeton's 9-5 victory over Long Island University on Tuesday. Princeton (14-17, 8-4) broke a 5-5 tie with a rally in the eighth inning scoring four runs.
Max Krance's RBI single scored Pat Boran who reached on a base hit and stole second in the first inning. Boran stole second again in the third and was driven in on a double by Andrew Hanson. Long Island scored a run in the second, three runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth for a 4-3 lead.
Tim Lahey drew a bases-loaded walk sending Boran home in the seventh inning. Ryan Reich followed with a two-RBI single scoring Eric Voelker and Hanson to even the game at runs apeice. Bill Broome (2-2) came to the mound, Princeton's fourth pitcher, and pitched the final three innings for his second win of the season. Broome allowed no runs on three hits and struck out three.
Boran crossed the plate for the game-winning run on a wild throw by Tim Schoffler at third base. Voelker had the first of three straight RBI singles for the Tigers as Lahey scored Krance with a base hit and Chernoff scored Voelker with his fourth hit of the game.
Princeton returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 19 at Monmouth at 3:30 p.m.
