Tiger Softball Sweeps Penn Doubleheader

Princeton, N.J. - - Princeton softball wrapped up their Ivy League season this afternoon with two victories over the Quakers of Penn, 5-0 and 9-3. Princeton finishes 8-6 in the Ivy League and moves to 19-14 on the season. Penn drops to 3-11 in the Ivy League and 14-29 on the season
Brie Galicinao, who in Ivy rankings posted earlier this week, leads the league in pitching with a 0.79 ERA and batting with a .410 average, was the starting pitcher in today's first match. Galicinao struck out 14 Quaker batters and did not allow a single base runner, Galicinao pitched a perfect game improving her record to 10-6. She is currently batting .404 and drops her ERA to 0.70. Today's win was Galicinao's first perfect game this season and her second straight perfect game against Penn. Galicinao went 1 for two at the plate and was intentionally walked once in today's first game. Errors plagued the Quakers, who committed three in the first game. Princeton's Devon Keefe who reached first on a dropped pop-up, started the Tiger scoring effort in the second when she scored on a wild pitch. Keefe was pushed to third base when first baseman Kristin Del Calvo doubled into centerfield. Lori Volker, who would finish the day batting 7 for 7 at the plate in the doubleheader, picked up her first RBI when she singled up the middle.
The Tigers scored three more runs in the fifth inning to clinch the game. Wendy Bingham, Lauren Poniatowski and Volker scored for Princeton in the inning. Devon Keefe picked up two RBIs when she drove in Volker and Poniatowski.
An all around strong performance for Princeton lead to the 9-3 victory in today's nightcap. Freshman pitcher, Wendy Bingham struck out six Quakers in four innings. Bingham allowed no runs, two hits and didn't sacrifice a single walk. Freshman, Kelly Gaydos saw three innings of action pitching for the Tigers. Gaydos allow 3 runs on five hits and walked two batters. Gaydos struck out three Quakers.
Junior Kim Veenstra and Senior Lori Volker hit extremely well for the Tigers, batting a combined 7 for 8 in today' second game. Volker went 4 for 4 at the plate and picked up three RBIs. Lori Volker entered today's doubleheader batting .271. Her spectacular performance today moves her average to .320. Veenstra who has been consistently strong at the plate is currently batting .353.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning. Princeton added three more runs in the third inning and five in the fourth highlighted by Galicinao's two run blast hit over the right center field fence. As a team, Princeton registered 17 hits off of Penn's Rebecca Ranta.
