COLUMBIA, S.C. - David Boehle (5-3) pitched a complete game in Princeton's (23-24) 11-6 win over The Citadel (38-24) and led the Tigers to its first NCAA tournament victory since 1965. The Tigers will play South Carolina in Game 4 tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.
Princeton trailed 6-4 going into the seventh inning. Pat Boran led off with a single, his third hit of the game, and scored on an RBI-single by Casey Hildreth. Mickey Martin scored Andrew Hanson, who reached on an error, with a base hit to tie the game 6-6. With one out and two on, The Citadel sent closer Randy Corn to the mound, a second-team All-America with 12 saves on the season. But Corn could not close down Princeton as Sean McNally and Tim Phillips each drove in a run on back-to-back singles. McNally went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Phillips went 2 for 5 with two RBIs in the game. Hanson singled in Boran who doubled to lead off the eighth inning. Hanson scored on a double-play ball extending the Tigers lead, 10-6. Boehle struck out two of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the inning. He struck out a season-high six in his fourth complete game of the season. Jon Watterson's double drove in another run for Princeton in the ninth.
Princeton had two extra base hits in the game and 16 singles. Watterson went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Boran went 5 for 6 with two runs scored. Princeton scored five unearned runs in the game.
