PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After a scoreless first inning, Temple (22-27, 13-6) scorched Princeton (22-22, 16-7) for eight runs in the second inning and defeated the Tigers 11-6 at Erny Field on Tuesday. The Owls had four straight base hits followed by two home runs in the inning.
Princeton responded by scoring four runs in the top of the third. Jon Watterson hit a two-RBI double to centerfield scoring Ryan Reich and Eric Fitzgerald. Pat Boran then reached on a throwing error by Temple third baseman Sam Sabolchick and stole second, moving Watterson to third. Andrew Hanson hit a two-out, two-RBI base hit to center to bring the Tigers within four runs.
Temple scored two more runs in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth. Princeton scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings.
Freshman Brian Beigen (0-3) suffered the loss giving up six runs on six hits in 1.2 innings. Watterson was 1 for 4 with three RBIs, Hanson was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Princeton will play its final home game of the 2001 season on Wednesday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. against Seton Hall.
