PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton baseball (22-23, 16-7) wrapped up its regular season with an 11-7 loss to visiting Seton Hall (27-20-1, 20-1) on Wednesday at Clarke Field.
Seton Hall opened up with a five run first inning. Kevin Leighton hit a grand slam for the Pirates in the inning, his fourth home run of the year.
Pat Boran scored on an unusual four-base error in the bottom of the first. Seton Hall third baseman Todd Crawford over threw Brian Leighton at first base on the play. The ball bounced off the first base side fence and into right field. Boran advanced to third on the error and scored when no one was covering home.
Seton Hall had a 6-1 lead after two innings. Mickey Martin cleared the bases with a three-RBI stand-up triple in the third inning and scored on a double by Casey Hildreth to cut Seton Hall's lead to one run. Andrew Hanson and Max Krance each had RBI-singles in the fourth to go ahead 7-6, but the Pirates tied it with a run in the fifth. Seton Hall broke the game open with a four-run seventh inning. Bill Broome and Thomas Pauly retired the sides in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Tom Rowland (4-5) allowed five runs on five hits and struck out one in 2.1 innings for the loss. Chris Noonan (1-0) won his first game of the season for Seton Hall.
Princeton earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament last Sunday by defeating Darmouth for second consecutive Ivy League championship. Tournament locations will be announced on May 14. Tournament seeds will be announced on May 21 at 3:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.
