Princeton, N.J. - For the second straight game freshman Adrian Melville scored early and for the second straight game Princeton blanked its opponent behind the goalkeeping of junior Jason White. The Tigers edged out Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 at Princeton's Lourie-Love Field on Thursday night to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Melville, who scored Princeton's first goal of the season in the Tigers 5-0 win over Monmouth, connected off an assist from sophomore Marty Shaw and freshman Ryan Rich at 9:49 to put Princeton up 1-0 on Thursday night. It was all the offense Princeton would need.
"I had no idea of what to expect at the college level," says Melville. "I just wanted to come in here and contribute."
Melville attempted three shots, all of which were on goal. Both teams attempted 16 shots and both teams committed 19 fouls in the contest. White recorded seven saves en route to his second shutout in as many games. FDU goalie Vytautas Lenkutis registered 11 saves on the night.
Princeton travels to Lehigh for a 1:00 p.m. contest on Sunday, Sept. 16.
